But we won’t just cover the general low-sodium options; if you’re also keeping your eye on other macros like fat or sugar, watching the calories, or trying to cut out gluten – we’ve got the best low-sodium choices for you, too.

The Absolute Lowest Sodium Option at Jack in the Box

If your main goal is to consume the least sodium possible, choose the Grilled Chicken Salad – with the grilled chicken as the topping. It has just 520mg of sodium – but note that number doesn’t include the dressing or any crispy toppings.

The suggested dressings are all pretty high in sodium, so if you want to dress your salad, reach for a mayonnaise sachet instead, which has just 65mg of sodium.

10 Other Low Sodium Jack In The Box Items

If you are not in the mood for a salad, here are the ten next lowest sodium choices at Jack In The Box after the Grilled Chicken Salad.

DishSodium Level
Grilled Chicken Salad With Julienne Chicken Side Salad590mg
Chicken Nugget 5 PC600mg
Chicken Fajita Pita made with Whole-Grain670mg
Hamburger680mg
Jr. Jumbo Jack700mg
Jumbo Jack 700mg
Chicken Club Salad With Grilled Chicken700mg
Southwest Chicken Salad With Grilled Chicken780mg
Southwest Chicken Salad With Julienne Chicken780mg
Chicken Fajita Pita Whole-Grain With Salsa790mg

Ideally, you should aim for just under 750mg of sodium per meal to meet the suggested daily maximum of 2300mg for people in the general population – balancing your intake throughout the rest of the day might let you go a little higher. However, always stick to the amounts your medical team has suggested.

5 Other Ways to Cut Sodium at Jack in the Box

Pick Plainer Burgers

I love a cheeseburger, but at Jack in the Box, the cheese adds a LOT to your dish. A Jumbo Jack burger has a not-too-bad 600mg of sodium- but the Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger has 1110mg. Asking to swap from American to Real Swiss will cut that difference by about half, though.

If you really want an extra, picking a burger that contains bacon will add about 100-120mg of sodium to your dinner.

Choose Normal Fries

They add quite a lot to your meal (540mg for a small portion), but that’s still 70mg less than the curly fries. Asking if you can have your fries salt-free will cut things further.

Then Go Value

The smaller portion means the Value portion of fries is even lower in sodium with 410mg.

Skip the Salsa

The Better For You menu contains lower sodium options, but, if you pick the Fajita with salsa, you’ll add 120mg of sodium to your dish – and push it into a higher 790mg.

Order Nuggets over Chicken Strips

I actually squeaked when I saw how much sodium was in the chicken strips! Four pieces contain 2350mg, compared to 600mg in the nuggets.

Other Healthy, Low Sodium Choices at Jacks

The above is great if you’re just watching sodium, but what if you have other dietary issues or are trying to eat more healthily in other ways – can you cover that at Jack in the Box? Mostly, yes.

The Lowest Sodium, Lowest Saturated Fat Choice

The best low-sodium, low-saturated fat menu item at Jack In The Box is the 5-piece Chicken Nuggets. They only have 600mg of sodium and 2 grams of saturated fat.

Now, chances are that eating those solo won’t fill you up, but you can add a Side Salad to increase the sodium by just 10mg and add zero saturated fat – again, you’ll have to skip the dressing on this one to keep the salt content down.

The Grilled Chicken Salad with Julienne Chicken is also a good low-sodium, low-saturated fat choice. It contains 590mg of sodium and 3.5 grams of saturated fat.

The Low-Calorie, Low Sodium Choice

If you’re keeping a close eye on both calories and sodium, Jack In The Box has a few low-calorie options.

The lowest calorie, lowest sodium main menu item at Jack In The Box is the Grilled Chicken Salad, which contains 220 calories and as we mentioned earlier 520mg of sodium.

Unfortunately, this does fall below the recommended 400 to 600 calories we should consume for a healthy meal. Adding extras like the Gourmet Seasoned Croutons will only add 70 calories to your meal, but they aren’t the best way to plump things up.

A more filling option would be to go for one of the smaller burgers on the menu, like the Jr. Jumbo Jack and the Jumbo Jack, which contain 700mg of sodium. The Jr. Jumbo Jack contains 400 calories, while the Jumbo Jack contains 520 calories.

The Lowest Sodium, Lowest Sugar Option

Jack In The Box has main menu items that contain low sodium and sugar levels. One main menu item contains no sugar at all.

That item is the Chicken Nuggets 5 PC. Order these with a Side Salad, and you’ll consume just 610mg of sodium and 2g of sugar (remember this is without salad dressing).

Or reach for the Grilled Chicken Salad with Grilled Chicken or Julienne Chicken, which are both low in sodium and have just 4gm of sugar.

The Lowest Sodium Vegetarian/Vegan Option At Jack In The Box

About the only meat-free item suitable as a whole ‘meal’ on the Jack in the Box menu would be the loaded Tiny Tacos, but with 1230mg of sodium, they aren’t a great choice. You might find a few other items regionally, but again, they tend not to be very low in sodium.

The Lowest Sodium, Gluten-free Option At Jack In The Box

If you follow a gluten-free diet, Jack In The Box has gluten-free, low-sodium main menu items.

The Grilled Chicken Salad (520mg of sodium) and the Grilled Chicken Salad With Julienne Chicken (590mg of sodium) are both gluten-free by ingredient – although Jack in the Box does stress they can’t guarantee there will be no cross-contamination, so they might not be suitable for those with coeliac disease.

There you have it, the best low-sodium menu items at Jack In The Box. Hopefully, you will know exactly what to order the next time you visit.
