If you’re trying to balance your energy in and out, sticking to very low-calorie drinks is one way to reduce your calorie intake. However, this doesn’t mean sticking solely to plain water. Here are 50 different drinks that have under 15 calories per 330ml glass to choose from instead.

Why Cutting Back on Liquid Calories is a Good Idea

Not only do they add to your overall calorie count in themselves, but the big problem with liquid calories is that your body doesn’t adjust for them in the same way as it does calories from solid foods. They don’t fill you up the same way, and they don’t switch off appetite the same way – but, they do go on as fat the same way!

By sticking to lower-calorie drinks, you can spend more of your daily calorie budget on more satisfying, nutrient-filled foods – you might find you’re eating more but weighing less.

So what’s on offer? Here are 50 possible suggestions; some might already be on your radar (but it’s still good to have a reminder for those moments when you’re stuck), while others you might not have heard of before, but they’re all delicious.

18 Different Teas To Try

Herbal and black teas, without sugar or milk, contain virtually zero calories. Add a splash of skim milk or unsweetened almond milk, and you’ll only increase the calorie content to about five.

Stick to herbal tea, and you don’t need milk at all. And don’t forget that you can serve some of the teas below either hot or cold over ice.

  • Black tea
  • Green tea
  • Earl Grey tea
  • Peppermint tea
  • Chamomile tea
  • Blackcurrant tea
  • Hibiscus tea
  • Rooibos tea
  • Ginger tea
  • Lemon verbena tea
  • Spearmint tea
  • Dandelion root tea
  • Raspberry leaf tea (do not use when pregnant)
  • Turmeric tea
  • Jasmine tea
  • Butterfly Pea Flower Tea – add lemon to make it go purple
  • Barley Tea
  • Chai Tea (not Chai Latte)

Try Something New: Freeze fruity herbal teas like Hibiscus or Blackcurrant into ice cubes, then blend them (using a blender that works with ice) to create a slushy-style drink.

Note: High-quality herbal teas can have similar effects on the body as the herbs themselves, especially when consumed regularly. Speak to your doctor, a pharmacist or a qualified herbalist before consuming if you are pregnant, have any long-term health conditions or are on any medication.

Four Low-Calorie Coffees to Swap To

Coffee can come as a cup filled with enough calories to replace a meal, or a power shot with less than 10 calories per cup. Guess which version we’re going to suggest here!

Like tea, you can serve these hot, over ice, or add a splash of skimmed milk or unsweetened alt milk to change things up.

    • Espresso
    • Americano (small)

      Six Indulgent Dessert Teas

The first time I tried chocolate tea, I was hooked. Sadly, that brand (Hotel Chocolat Cocoa Infusions) no longer exists, but if you’re looking for something to replace high-calorie treats in your diet, teas containing flavours you usually associate with dessert like chocolate, vanilla or cinnamon, or that have natural sweet tastes can work well as a swap with a fraction of the calories.

These brands are available in the US, but you’ll find similar ones in the UK and Australia, or they may be able to be shipped to your location.

      Nine Ideas for Flavored Water

Adding slices of fruit or herbs to water and letting it steep for a few hours is a simple way to change the taste with minimal calories. You can use still water or sparkling water to add variety.

Here are nine suggestions to try, but you can experiment with all sorts of fruits, herbs, and spices and mix them together to create yummy blends, such as Apple and Cinnamon water.

Some people have even started making savoury waters; garlic water is a thing, and vinegar waters have been made for years. Someone once even claimed to be marketing cheese-flavoured water (although I’m still not sure that wasn’t a joke!).

      • Mint Water
      • Lemon Water
      • Cucumber Water
      • Ginger Water
      • Apple Cider Vinegar Water
      • Rosemary Water
      • Orange Water
      • Apple Water
      • Watermelon Water

You can also mix in pureed fruits, which works well if you’re trying to mix fruits and spices like cinnamon, but this will increase the calorie count. As a general rule, about 100g of pureed fruit will add about 50 calories, so try.

      Eight Mixed Drinks

Adding fruit juice to water creates a refreshing evening drink. Top tip: Serve it in a wine or cocktail glass. This is one of the top tips I use when I don’t want to drink alcohol. It makes everything feel more like a treat, and I don’t really notice that I’m not drinking alcohol.
