Whether you want to eat it for breakfast or as a tasty afternoon snack to fight sugar cravings and keep you full until dinner, chia pudding can be a delicious healthy treat. Here are seven ideas to take your chia pudding from basic to brilliant. Let’s get mixing!
They may be small but chia seeds pack a punch in the health stakes – especially for their healthy omega-3 fat content. You can add them to dishes like soups and salads to get their healthy benefits, but, one of the nicest ways to use them is in chia pudding.

Chia Pudding Basics
Making chia pudding couldn’t be easier. Here’s what you need for one person…
25g chia seeds
60ml of milk, flavoured milk or an alt milk of your choice
Add those two together, stir well and wait five minutes.
Give it another stir to separate the seeds, then wait 15 more minutes. If you prefer the pudding thinner, add more milk now.
Soaking the chia for this long helps soften them, making it easier for your digestion to break them down – this can help you avoid chia bloat.
You can just eat the pudding at this point, but the world is your oyster when it comes to chia pudding. You can change things up by adding flavourings to the milk or topping the finished pudding with fruit, nuts, yogurt and more. Want some ideas? Here’s seven to get you started.
1. Peanut Butter Banana Chia Pudding
Peanut butter and banana are a classic combo, and they make chia pudding even better!

Mix chia seeds with your favorite milk, then stir in some creamy peanut butter and sliced bananas.
If you want to mix things up a bit, you can also turn this into an overnight oats recipe by adding 2-3 tablespoons of oats to the chia, doubling the milk quantity and letting it sit overnight.
Next morning give it all a good stir and add extra milk if needed. Then top with peanut butter and banana.
2. Dark & Stormy Chia Pudding
No, it doesn’t have rum – although, if you’re making it as an evening dessert, nothing is stopping you from adding a dash over the fruit!

Top your original pudding with a layer of Greek yogurt, then add a handful of dark berries like blackberries, blueberries or blackcurrants.
3. Spiced Pumpkin Chia
Get your spiced pumpkin fix year-round.
Use normal milk, but add a swirl of pumpkin puree and a dash of cinnamon to give it an orangey glow.
If you’re craving pumpkin spice lattes you can add a swirl of whipped cream on the top!
4. Matcha & Strawberry Chia Pudding
This pretty combination gives you the goodness of green tea and bright red berries in one.

You will need a blender (or a hand blender if you’re making smaller quantities) to make this as matcha powder doesn’t combine as well with cold milk as it does with hot, so add a spoonful of matcha powder to the milk and blend well.
Now, use this as the base for your pudding. Once it’s set, add strawberry slices to give a colour, flavour and nutrition boost.
5. Chocolate Pudding
This creamy treat will hit the sweet spot. Start either with your favorite chocolate milk as a base, or for a more intense taste (and colour), blend milk and dark cocoa powder in a blender. Use this as your chia base.

Top with blueberries or slivered almonds, or get decadent and add a drizzle of chocolate syrup for a delicious finish!
6. Coffee Chia
Replace your base milk with either coffee-flavoured milk, or blend instant coffee powder with your choice of milk, then soak the chia as normal.

If you want to get bougie, top the set pudding with Greek Yogurt (or thick cream) and some chocolate shavings or sprinkles.
7. Plum and Almond
Mix up your chia blend with a little vanilla-flavoured milk. then, once it’s set, top with cut plums and slivered almonds and hazelnuts

If you have more time, you can also roast the plums. Pears and baking apples also work well here.
So, there you have seven simple ideas for chia puddings – but, as you can see, you can pretty much do anything with them if you swap up the flavours of milk you use and play around with your toppings. What will you try first?
